I Hanoi findes der et utal af isbarer, og et stort antal af dem byder sig til med fancy udenlandsk i f.eks. italiensk. Priserne er relativt høje, og kvaliteten er bestemt også i top. Men udgangspunktet er stadig, at man får den europæiske is smag og altså ikke den særlige vietnamesiske version, der også kan være en positiv oplevelse – især hvis man finder Hanois mest populære is-bar Kem Trang Tien.
Stedet udmærker sig ved at være en slags drive-in, hvor man forlader den travle trafik på Trang Tien og køre ind i bygningen med sin scooter. Her er der lavet plads til parkeringspladser, så man kan købe sin is i fred og ro, inden man f.eks. siddende på sin scooter kan nyde sit indkøb, hvis ikke man da ikke spiser den stående sammen med de mange andre isglade gæster.
Kem Trang Tien er nærmest en institution i sig selv inden for is-bar-verdenen, og ekstremt populær hos vietnameserne – og da stedet åbnede i 1958, taler vi altså om generationer af borgere i Hanoi, der har nydt deres is netop her.
Kem Trang Tien er berømt for den brede vifte af is-varianter, herunder is med bønner, chokolade, ris og mælk. Og til trods for sin berømmelse, har Kem Trang Tien fastholdt de lave priser, og er dermed et billigt og sjovt indslag, når man vil køles ned i den varme sommer i Hanoi – her kan alle være med, og oplevelsen koster som bekendt ingen ting.

Scooter driver-in ice cream bar!!

In Hanoi there are an innumerable numbers of ice cream bars, and a large number of them offering ice cream with fancy foreign names and flavors. The prices are relatively high, and the quality is definitely top notch. But the basis is still, that you get the European ice cream flavour and therefore not the special Vietnamese version that can also be a positive experience – especially if you takes Hanoi’s most popular ice bar Kem Trang Tien.
The site is characterized by being a sort of drive-in, where you leave the busy traffic on Trang Tien and run into the building with you scooter. Here are made space for parking, so you can buy you ice cream in peace and enjoy it, for example sitting on your scooter, if you do not just eat it standing along with the many other ice cream guests.
Kem Trang Tien is almost an institution in itself in ice-bar business and is extremely popular with the Vietnamese – and since the place opened in 1958, we are talking about generations of citizens in Hanoi who have enjoyed their ice cream right here.
Kem Trang Tien is famous for the wide variety of ice cream flavours, including ice with beans, chocolate, rice and milk.
